The article "Stuck? Frustrated? Going Bananas?" by Dr. Cohen resonated with me, particularly the statement, "We're too busy trying to make things happen in our favor rather than naturally let things happen in our favor." This statement reminded me of the fundamental concept of pure consciousness.
Anyone who has practiced affirmations can attest to their effectiveness. Repeatedly making a positive statement to oneself can lead to belief in that statement. As the affirmation is continued, it evolves beyond belief and matures into an accepted aspect of one's life. Eventually, the positivity permeates your mind, becoming as integral to you as your skin or eyes.
Years ago, I came across a book titled "The Creative Process," a compilation of essays by artists, scientists, mathematicians, and a variety of creative individuals. I was struck by the shared creative experience these individuals wrote about.
In each instance, the individual described days, months, or even years of effort on a project or problem, only to have the solution emerge in their mind during a dream, a walk by the sea, or while taking a bath.
For example, a woman I know struggled to recall the name of a person she hadn't thought of in years. That night, she dreamt of a billboard with the person's name emblazoned across it. This raises the question, why do people often say, "Let me sleep on it?"
In the early 20th century, physicists began to develop the concepts that would become known as Quantum Theory. Their research suggested that the most potent levels of reality were the most subtle. Experiments confirmed their theories. Split an atom, and you unleash atomic energy. Split the nucleus of an atom, and you release the even more potent nuclear energy. They discovered that increasingly subtle levels of reality lead to an idea, a thought, a state of being.
So, where am I going with this? The point I'm trying to make is less of an analogy and more of a reality.
Thought is most potent at its source, which is the state of pure consciousness. When these creative individuals discovered answers to questions and solutions to problems, they found them not when they were actively thinking about them, but when their minds were calm and at rest.
When Dr. Cohen stated, "We're too busy trying to make things happen in our favor rather than naturally let things happen in our favor," it suggested to me that we need to step back, quiet our minds to understand how to proceed. We must trust the still, quiet part of ourselves. We need to dedicate some time each day to experience that pure consciousness.
