Animal and plant fibers have been used in a variety of applications since ancient times. Animal fibers tend to be more absorbent than natural fibers but are subject to abrasion and damage from abrasion.

Animal and plant fibers are used in the process of manufacturing luxury garments such as scarves, fleece jackets and shawls, and decorative items such as laces, pillows, carpets as well as some commercial fabrics. Natural fiber or plant fibers are soft, translucent, fine-grained, and strong threads made by living organisms.
