Surveyors may be called as persons who carry out the jobs of surveying. Now let us see what does surveying actually means? Surveying is the process or way of determining the actual position of a property or thing on or near the Earth’s surface. Surveying may be of different kinds for example cadastral surveying,
construction surveying, hydrographic survey etc.Surveyors are also of different types depending on the kind of survey they does and the job responsibilities they hold on their shoulders. We will look at some of these types in a little more detail and will come to know where to get the training to become a successful surveyor.1. Building Surveyors:The basic job of a building surveyor is to give advices on properties and construction and provide solutions related to construction of buildings. This is a vast area of responsibility where the surveyor not only gives advice on the construction but also give advices on the design of the building according to the requirement of the client. His job is to give the best design possible as per the property goes which meets the client’s requirement and choices more closely. The nature of job also includes giving suggestions on the repair and renovations on a remaining property and the way of maintaining it. Since it has a vast work-field therefore it requires knowledge in various subjects which includes architectural knowledge with property law knowledge and also knowledge on building constructions etc. the person should also have some sense of design and aesthetics. This is because they have to make suggestions regarding the design of the buildings also. 2. Chartered Surveyors or commercial Surveyors:Chartered surveyors are also called commercial surveyors as they are the persons who work commercially and professionally and have the license to do that. The chartered surveyors are the persons who have gained education on the subject of surveying and are Professional Members and Fellows of RICS or Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. They are also entitled to use their designations such as Chartered Building surveyors or Chartered Quantity surveyors. The designations of the surveyors depend on their field of expertise and the subject on which they have gained knowledge. Chartered Surveyors or CS’s are trained professionals in the field of property and they provide impartial and expert advices on issues related to land and properties. They provide solution to all land and property related issues from a simple dispute for a building or structural issue of big complexes. They are the one from which the expert advices are asked for.Whom you choose to audit your building is entirely up to you. When you want to make casual checks a building surveyor will do. But if you want a stringent check whether you're building will conform to all the regulations and standards then a chartered surveyor. There is no doubting the job of any the two it is all about the level of detail that you would like to get into.
