If the latest updates from Google suddenly strengthened the status of certain practices that are considered profane, practices that they support are available to the public for many years. If the recent updates from Google have suddenly cemented the status of certain practices that have been deemed as abusive,Anthony Ricigliano – The Things Google has Been Telling SEO’s for a Long Time Articles the practices that they endorse have been public knowledge for years. In truth, Google had been speaking out against black hat SEO practices for years but enforcing their will had proved difficult. Recent algorithm updates changed all that as the farming of content and links finally became definable and rankings of abusive sites were “adjusted” accordingly.

Less of a mystery are the things Google has been telling Anthony Ricigliano SEO’s for years, all of which are founded on the search engine’s quest to provide the best user experience possible. This list includes:

Create quality content – In the world of Google, quality content means everything. Their view is that quality content is what their users are seeking, and Google has consistently said that they want to surface the best content possible, even if it isn’t SEO’d as well as content that is lower in quality. The problem for many is that quality content is a lot tougher to generate than slapdash text that is crammed with keywords. Google’s new ability to enforce their will in this area means that SEO’s are going to have to play along or risk the consequences.

A few links from relevant and/or authority sites go a lot further than thousands of links that originate from low quality and unrelated sites -  Google is looking for link profile that at least appears to have been created in a natural fashion. This means that a certain percentage of links will be “no-follow” some will be “do follow”, some will be from other industry related sites, some will not, and so on.

Black hat practices will be discovered and dealt with – If anything, the last two algorithm changes have indicated Google’s commitment to fighting manipulative and abusive practices. Future algorithm changes will likely widen that net as the search engine chases down other practices intended to surface undeserving content.

It’s a new world for Anthony Ricigliano Search Engine Optimization as the search engines improve their capability to discover black hat practices. Stay tuned, there is sure to be more.
