A couple of examples of how quickly a Fire can spread from on area to another and the importance of knowing your Fire Safety Emergency Plan for your Block of Flats.
A fire in three wheelie bins spread to a block of flats in Feltham.
Three bins were completely destroyed by the blaze. The fire spread to cabling fixed to the outside of the block of flats. Smoke entered the communal landings and part of the roof was damaged.
The fire knocked the power out and this in turn stalled the lift. A woman and a child entered the lift unknowing that there was a fire in the premise and as a result became trapped. The Firefighters worked hard and fast to get the two out – reinforcing that you should not use the lift in a time of Fire, always use the stairs.
A blaze broke out at a first floor flat in a five-storey block of flats in Kilburn. One woman was rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and another adult and a child left a neighbouring flat before the Brigade arrived.
London Fire Brigade control officers gave fire survival guidance to a resident in the block who was advised to stay where there is fresh air and stay out of smoke logged areas.
All other residents were advised to stay inside their flats while firefighters tackled the blaze.
A London Fire Brigade Station Manager said: “If there is a fire elsewhere in the building but not inside your home you're usually safer staying in your flat unless heat or smoke is affecting you. Flats and Maisonettes are built to give you some protection from fire – a minimum of 30 minutes and up to 60. Walls, floors and doors will hold back flames and smoke for a time.
If you leave your flat you could be rushing into choking smoke, the fire itself or firefighters using equipment to bring the fire under control in another part of the building.”

With thousands of risk assessment companies available online, it can be challenging for clients to determine which service will provide a suitable and sufficient assessment. It's not just about finding the best price; it's about securing peace of mind and legal compliance.A London Purpose Built Block of Flats Has a Fast Moving Fire Involving Solar Panels!
