Duct tape

Masking tape

Masking tapes are a type of adhesive tape that uses a paper backing. Masking tapes are used in a number of applications, including packaging, labeling, arts and crafts, bundling, splicing and more. Because there are so many uses, it’s among the most commonly-used tapes on the market.

Like with duct tapes, there are different types of masking tape. Masking tapes are used for temporary adhesion to surfaces that require clean removal. Painter’s tapes do the same, but are specifically designed to leave clean paint lines at the edge.

Which one is right for you?

If you’re looking for a tape with superior strength, duct tape has you covered. Both laminated duct tape and co-extruded duct tapes are designed for strong, permanent and temporary bonds.

For home and DIY uses, both duct tape and masking tape might suit the situation. Both tapes are commonly used in arts and crafts, and there are a number of guides online to help find the best one for you. And for painting, go with painter’s tape. While some other masking tapes can be used for paint projects, painter’s tape will give you a cleaner removal.
