The Emma Maersk,World’s largest ship Articles owned by Maersk Line, is currently the largest ship in operation today. Maersk Line is one the world’s leading players within the international shipping industry and their vessels are used to transport cargo and shipments all over the world. Recently, Maersk Line signed a contract with a Korean shipbuilding firm, Daewoo and an order has been placed for the construction of ten Triple-E ships (www.worldslargestship.com/shipping). These ships will surpass the Emma Maersk in terms of size and capacity.

These new giants of the sea are scheduled for delivery in 2013 – 2015 but even now they are the center of attention throughout the international shipping industry.

As the world’s largest ship, the Triple-E is quite huge but it is not that much bigger when compared to the Emma Maersk. However, it does feature an expanded capacity for container storage and shipment. The Triple-E is 400 meters long and 59 meters wide and has a deep and expanded hull shaped as U in contrast to the Emma Maersk’s V shaped hull.

The sheer size of the ship is not the only impressive trait featured in the Triple-E. It can carry 18,000 TEU containers but it also features an energy efficiency level previously unheard of in a ship this size. The ship’s engine has been designed to lower energy consumption while still sailing at the speeds practiced by the industry today. This will eventually lead to a reduction in shipping costs as well as being more environmentally friendly (20 % less CO2 emission per container compared to the Emma Maersk).

Everyone who is looking for more efficient and cost effective shipping services, stand to benefit from the introduction of the world’s largest ship, the Triple-E.
