Advertising Jobs
Working in the advertising industry can mean highly creative,
diverse and interesting job tasks. Advertising targets people across the whole world, targeting specific groups of people with a specific message. For example, that yummy new chocolate bar you saw on the TV last night and went out and bought, is the perfect example of effective advertising to the public to encourage sales or promote a particular brand. Advertising can take place across a range of different platforms; television, radio, online, website, social media, magazine adverts, billboards, poster adverts and many more! If you are creative, organised and good at managing projects, an advertising job could be the perfect opportunity for you. Read on to find out about typical advertising jobs descriptions to help you find the right career path.
Those working in advertising will most likely work for an advertising agency, securing and managing client contracts, although you could be part of the marketing team within a company, handling your own campaigns.
Advertising account executive
You will be the direct contact for your clients to speak to should they have any problems or queries. You may have to pitch to prospective clients; researching them as a company and preparing draft ideas about potential advertising campaigns you would devise for them should they begin a contract with the agency. You will need to listen to the client’s individual needs and know their company in great detail. A great advertising executive will know the perfect way to target the exact target audience in a positive and professional light that meets the company’s reputation and style. The client you are dealing with could be a fairly new start up, with a much smaller budget, or a large international company with a million pound budget. The type of client you work with will depend on your agencies size and reputation. You will think of, plan, and implement advertising campaigns for your clients, all the while reporting to your account manager and your client to ensure they agree with each step you take. Once a campaign is in progress, you will need to monitor the effectiveness to assess if the campaign was as successful as you and the client has forecast.
Advertising Copywriter
You will work alongside other advertising professionals on your team, ensuring you completely understand the client’s business and needs from their campaign, as well as the proposed ideas in order to produce copy to fit suitably. If you love English and creative writing, this could be the perfect advertising job for you. You must be careful to not be misleading or lie in your advertisements, ensuring you are abiding with strict advertising regulations. You will be liaising with clients and account executives, to interpret the briefs and create copy to fit with the type of campaign being planned. You may also take part in casting actors, while keeping up to date with current culture and trends that may alter the way you target the chosen population group. You may be writing simple ‘one liner’ tag lines for a print advert, or a 30 second script for a radio advert; either way you need to make sure you are using specific language to create effective advertisements that will subtly attract customers to the client’s business.
