If you have Microsoft Dynamics GP, formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics and eEnterprise, implemented in your organization and the next phase in your ERP and MRP developing is Logistics, Warehouse Management, Consignment, Barcoding automation
we would like to offer you this FAQ style written publication, where we are reviewing Dynamics GP Dexterity, eConnect, Integration Manager, Report Writer technologies and suggest you the way to tune existing scripts and modules to automate your unique business processes:
1. Microsoft Dexterity, initially it was designed as Great Plains architecture, and you can alter any part of Dynamics GP business logic in Great Plains Dexterity. Dex Sanscript programming requires experience and it is not recommended for newcomers, especially if you are not planning to dedicate several years of Dexterity only programming. eConnect, this is SDK, initially dedicated to Great Plains eCommerce programmers, to open GP objects for manipulation directly from ecommerce web application. Both Dex and eConnect are perfect tool to integrate Barcode and Logistics legacy application with Dynamics GP. GP Integration Manager. Here you have user friendly tool, plus for the rest of us, Software developers – we extend IM logic with VBA scripts and what is probably more important with Advanced ODBC queries, based in SQL Server Views and Cross Platform Views (also referred as Heterogeneous Views), where you can combine integration sources: MS SQL, Oracle, Lotus Notes/Domino, Dbase, Ingress, Pervasive SQL, MySQL, DBII. Report Writer and Crystal Reports are tools of choice for Barcode labels printing from GP Inventory Control and POP Purchase Receipts
2. Great Plains Barcoding. Here you usually need several routines: Barcode Labels printout, and Scanning: Inventory Cycle, Point Of Sale Barcode Scanning, Barcode Scanning in Shipping and Receiving and Cargo tracking. Sometimes you may need your Distributor Catalog Import or Update with Distributor Barcodes, including retired items and their replacements. Barcode scanners usually work in two modes: Realtime (often with Barcode server) and Batch modes (where you upload each scanner log to Dynamics GP or legacy Logistics application)
3. Consignment. Here you have rather accounting related concern, when you do not want items on consignment to show up on your Balance Sheet Inventory section. At the same time you would like to have inventory QTY maintenance and have these items ready for being sold on demand immediately
4. Variable Weight and Light Process Manufacturing. These scripts and logic you might need in food or meat processing, mining, including gold, platinum, silver and gem stones extraction
5. International Distribution and Trade. Here you typically have issues with Unicode based characters and languages: Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Mongolian, Russian, Spanish. We recommend you to deploy Crystal Reports for international documents printing. Also Sea Bill of Lading could be successfully created in CR or Dynamics GP Report Writer (for non-unicode languages: German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Czech, etc.)
