You may get frustrated when it seems to take forever for your computer to switch on. Slow system startups are usually caused by low memory space, errors in registry errors, and when there are installed programs and applications that automatically start when your PC is started.

There are various methods that should be done in order to improve your system startup. However, proper precautions should be observed in performing these methods to avoid further problems. Here are some tips on how to boost your system start up.

1. Change your Windows Settings.

Slow start ups can also be attributed to some changes in system settings. Windows has this utility called System Configuration that can be used to do the necessary changes.

* In your desktop, click the Start button then select Run.

* A dialog box will appear. Type "MSCONFIG" in the type box then press Enter.

* In the System Configuration Utility, choose the Startup tab to let you see the programs that usually begin during a start up.

* You will see that there are a lot of programs in the list. To remove unnecessary programs or application, just un-tick the box of the chosen program.

* Once you are done with the changes, click OK then reboot your system.

You can also change settings for your Windows services. Here are the steps to follow.

* After rebooting, reopen again the System Configuration utility.

* Under the Services tab, tick the box of the option Hide All Microsoft Services to let you view the unnecessary programs that can be also removed.

* Click OK if you are done.

Remember that you must remove programs that are totally unnecessary since removing important programs may result to more serious boot problems.

2. Perform changes with your system "BIOS".

One way in speeding up your system's boot time is to run some changes in your BIOS or Basic Input/output System. Take note that you should be careful in modifying some settings with your BIOS to avoid further errors.

* Turn on your computer. Make sure that you must start with your unit completely off.

* Launch the System BIOS screen based on what your computer manufacturer's guide says.

* Once you are in the BIOS setup, locate the BOOT menu.

* For modern versions, you'll find the Quick Boot option. Enable this to skip other memory tests.

* Under the BOOT menu, look for the Boot Device Priority option. Select the first option, which is the Hard Drive then press Enter to finish the changes made.

* Selecting the Hard Drive will speed up your system start up however, this will also enable your computer to boot from a "CD-ROM". If you don't want this, you can always deselect the option by launching the BIOS setup again.

3. Disable hardware that is no longer used.

Your PC loads up a lot of drivers during startup. Disabling unused drivers can shorten your system's boot time.

* From your Windows desktop, click the Start button.

* In the search bar, type Device manager.

* Locate drivers that you are not using. Some of the common options are Bluetooth devices, virtual Wi-Fi adapters, and modems.

* Right-click on the device you wish to remove then select Disable.

Please be mindful that you should be uninstalling those drivers that you are not totally using.

4. Uninstall unnecessary fonts.

During a system start up, your Windows computer loads up a lot of fonts, causing a boot slow down. However, you can remove fonts that you are using. Here's how to uninstall them.

For Windows XP

* Open My Computer then open "Drive C".

* Create a new folder and name it as Fonts Backup.

* Go back to the Local Disk C then open the Windows folder.

* Locate the Fonts folder. Once opened, choose the fonts you wish to remove. Highlight them then click Edit and choose Copy.

* Navigate back to the folder you just made ten paste the copied fonts.

* Go back to the Fonts folder then delete the highlighted fonts.

For Windows 7

* From your Windows Desktop, click the Start menu.

* In the search bar, type Fonts Folder.

* Once loaded, it will show up all the fonts that are installed in your computer. Check off fonts that you want to remove.

* Once done, click the Hide button. In this way, you are not totally deleting the fonts rather you are only preventing them to load during a system start up.

5. Upgrade your computer memory.

This must be the traditional method in boosting up your system start up. They are cheap and easy to install.
