How much money can I expect to make off of selling ebooks on the internet

The answer depends on a number of factors: what is the popularity of your chosen topic; how much marketing and promotion are you willing to undertake; how much can you spend on advertising; how good is your product; how is your customer service and technical support; are your customers happy; etc. The fact is many authors get discouraged because the internet riches promised to them by some website or advertisement never materialize. The truth is if you make some profit initially then you are well ahead of almost all internet websites - very few make any money. Look at selling your ebook on the internet as a long term investment requiring a little bit of work almost every day. Your payoff may come several years down the road but don't expect an instant internet atm.

I employed a friend of mine several summers ago and every once in a while he would hear me yell,How much money can I expect to make from ebook sales? Articles "Alright!" or "Yeah!" from my office. Finally he came in and wanted to know what I was carrying on about. I said, "I just got another book sale." He would kind of chuckle to himself and ask, "How much was the sale for?" I indicated that it was just one sale and was for $10. He would laugh out loud at this point and point out with a rhetorical question: "Don't you have to split that with your partner? So all that racket over $5, huh?" Then he would leave my office and go back to his desk.

My friend failed to understand several things. Most basic of these was that I had created an income stream that was highly likely to continue flowing for the next several decades. Almost as elementary was that my income stream had a history of growing more than 10% per year. If it continued at the pace for the next several decades, my retirement looked pretty cushy or, at the very least, I had an income stream to look forward to heading into retirement. My friend also failed to realize that I may hit on other sales and/or marketing techniques that would substantially increase my income. Sure enough, less than two years later, I tripled my monthly revenue with one small change. Another six months later, I doubled that revenue with another small change. Now, I may be on the verge of doubling or tripling my revenue with yet another small change to my marketing process. And of course, my friend couldn't foresee changes in the interet and in the number of people and the way they use the internet.

If my friend had but the faith of a mustard seed, he could move mountains. Ah well, everyone wants to be a critic. Some people get lucky and find the right niche and through some hard promotion work make a decent amount of money fairly quickly. Others plug along making a small revenue stream but it may rain soon and it may rain hard.
