More Thoughts on -- As a Man Thinketh
"As a Man Thinketh" by James Allen, is the little book with the big bang. Follow me on my journey in personal development as I look at additional nuggets of truths that have permanently affected my life for the better. The flow of wisdom is immense so prepare yourself to be carried away.
I am hoping that you read the first part of this review called “As a Man Thinketh“ I don't want to do anyone the disservice of giving too many cliffs notes and fool you into thinking you already "get the gist" of the book,
and so don't need to read it yourself. What a mistake that would be. The power held in these few quotes is multiplied many times by reading all the words preceding them written by the author himself.
Here are a few other notable quotes, of which almost the entire book is made up. These are more than I can resist since they have been personally very moving for me and for so many others, I am sure:
-- "Until thought is linked with purpose, there is no intelligent accomplishment," and after describing focusing our thoughts, "Even if he fails again and again to accomplish his purpose...the strength of character gained will be the measure of this true success, and this will form a new starting-point for future power and triumph." I have personally experienced that last point, and it is of such value to know that we can grab hold of even our failures and use them to set us up for our next victories.
-- "The will to do springs from the knowledge that we CAN do. Doubt and fear are the great enemies of knowledge, and he who encourages them, who does not SLAY them, thwarts himself at every step."
-- "
He who has conquered doubt and fear has conquered failure."
-- He says we become the "wielder" of our mental powers as we learn to really focus on our dreams and visions.
-- “
Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become..."
-- "The oak sleeps in the acorn..."
-- "You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration…”
-- “And about "luck" and "chance" that people associate with the successes of others, the author rightly describes a superficial judgment, without an understanding of all the effort and heartache that went into those successes.
-- Lastly, I will leave you with this one: "Keep your hand firmly upon the helm of thought. In the bark of your soul reclines the commanding Master; He does but sleep: wake Him,
Self-control is strength; Right Thought is mastery..."
Thanks to my mentors for requiring this reading as part of the MMMChallenge, where my competitive spirit compels me to make a concerted effort to achieve and leads me into the deeper waters of a truly great accomplishment: the shaping of my innermost thoughts. May we all read this book, whether in the Challenge or not, to bring about the changes we most desire, and for the fruits of which we are all striving. For it is by reading and purposefully applying all the nuggets of truth found in this little book, that one is changed into the image of his deepest dreams and aspirations. I fully endorse and recommend that you make, “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen -- a frequently read addition to your library.
