Confession of a data analyst:

At 21 years of age there is only one thing all of our minds, how are we going to settle down? Completing an engineering course and sitting for the placements all I got was one IT job which is nowhere close to my mainstream. This is Rahul, with a degree in aeronautical engineering. My subject of interest was aero dynamic data collection and analysis – typically how much of speed and flight is generated and how we can make it better. My year end project was also on the same topic and was appreciated throughout the college. But this didn’t make me land a job where I am asked to do a similar thing. There are no aeronautical companies visiting our college and there is zero percent chance that I would land up a job in aeronautical. Now you can ask why I landed up in this college and in this course did. Most of our dreams are decide by our higher secondary marks and a little bit of money. For a person who is bad that both of these, fate decided my destiny but a little bit of favor at my end, getting the course I wanted.

Passing out the college jobless was painful and to see myself nowhere was heart-breaking. But I didn’t let this rule me. I started researching on all the aeronautical companies and the job profiles they are offering. Most of the profiles need 10 to 20 years of experience. But for a 21 year like me, the experience is something which can never be bought. Maybe I can do things better than a 10-year experience person but the industry is nowhere close to hearing my stories. Then there was one, data analysts at one of the reputed company in Mumbai. The qualifications were something else but with a degree in aeronautical which is precisely what I have. The position didn’t require much of a work experience because the technical knowledge they are seeking is very recent. Yes, it required a big data certified person. The very next day, I enrolled myself into an online big data analytics courses. It was a 6-month course and everything they taught me in this course was very much new to be. But I was very sure that I at something bigger than what I had known all these years. After the 6 months period, I was now certified. The institute where I studied came up to me with some good job offerings. But my interest laid somewhere else. With a data analytics certification, I applied to the job position in another aeronautical company in Bangalore. Luckily I got the call the very next day.

It’s been 4 years since I settle in this job and life has been awesome. One good decision in my life helped overcome a lot of hurdles. Always follow your passion. Find and try all the possible ways that are there to achieve what you want in life. There could a slight delay but is definitely worth it.
