Learn more about amazing skills of dolphins. No wonder they are recognized as one of the claverest species in nature!
Dolphins are incredible creatures! Their intelligence is a common fact of knowledge, but have you ever wondered to what extent these marine animals can amaze us? There are several striking skills and dolphins are distinguished for among others. We can refer to pink dolphins, circus dolphins or some others, but truly all of them possess incredible skills!
1. The communication language is a characteristic feature of dolphins behavior underlining their social nature and living in packs. Dolphin communication is expressed with sound pulses and ultrasound. They produce a wide range of various sounds: whistles, twitter, buzz, squeak, squeal, smacking, clicking, grinding, popping, roaring, screaming, creaking, etc. The most expressive is the whistle, a variety of which counts several dozens. Each of them means a phrase (alarm, pain, call, greeting, warning, etc.)
2. Essentially dolphins have a good sense of hearing, operating on the sonar principle. It often replaces dolphins’ vision. Precisely hearing helps these sea residents to find food at night or in murky water, to avoid the dangers in the form of predators and not to bump into obstacles. Dolphins’ hearing, as of other cetaceans, is more accurate than humans’ in 400-1000 times!
3. Dolphins’ intelligence. First of all, it is worth noting that dolphins learn everything quickly, sometimes even faster than dogs. After watching the trick two or three times it easily can repeat it. In addition, dolphins may show some creativity. Thus, the animal is not only able to perform the task of the trainer, but do some other tricks in the process. Brain of this animal is also amazing: it truly never sleeps. The right and left hemispheres of the brain rest in turn. After all, the dolphin should always be on the alert: to avoid predators and occasionally come to the surface to breathe.
4. A surprising property of dolphins’ organism is a rapid healing of wounds. Dolphins do not bleed even in case of deep and serious injuries. These sea creatures can use their ability to dive to the depths, and thus delay the flow of blood to the point until it starts clotting. Dolphins do not get infected wounds. Skin and subcutaneous fat of the mammals contain antibacterial substances that prevent the development of infection in the wound.
5. Dolphins can dive to depths of up to 300 meters with no signs of decompression sickness. It is also called the caisson disease - a disease that occurs during a rapid transition from a high-pressure environment in the medium with the lower pressure. These mammals also emerge from the depths at high speed. In contrast, it can become fatal for a human diver.
