World is changing fast, and so are its facets. From construction to election, and communication to education, every area is witnessing a revolution. And as the saying goes, it is wiser to change with the changing times. The realm of education is seeing a sea change since last few years. From simple curriculum-bound education to international exposure oriented education, the field is witnessing a transformation like never before.
The Story of Yore: When traditional education was the order of the day; students were taught limited subjects like English, Hindi, Maths, Science and Humanities. Education was limited to fixed curriculum, and nothing beyond that. No, or practically very limited emphasis was given to co-curricular activities. As a matter of fact, moral education, general knowledge were not even considered as subjects to be taught and included in school curriculum. But it is an era long gone by.
The Current Scenario:Today, many new subjects like Moral Science, Computer Science, Foreign Languages, etc have made way to our kids’ curriculum. It is a phenomenon which has been necessitated with the changing times, and increasing demands of becoming a global citizen. As per the Govt’s initiative which focuses on holistic development of a child, many new subjects have been added to the school curriculum. The subjects not just widen the knowledge of an individual but add to his personality and outlook.
The International Edge: Another major aspect of modern school education in India is international exposure. Education boards have judiciously blended their curriculum to accommodate ways of global learning. International methodologies have been adopted to extend a global learning experience to the Indian students. Global history and culture have become an integral part of a school curriculum to broaden their horizon and add dimension to their education.
Exchange Programmes: Many schools have moved a step further wherein under the student exchange programme, they send their senior ones, to various schools beyond the national boundaries. And similarly, invite students from foreign schools to increase mutual cultural awareness as well as language proficiency. Be it international educational methodology, international content or international student exchange programmes, the students are benefitting in no mean terms. They are developing a better understanding of the global market, where tomorrow they will be expected to perform.
International exposure gives a child an edge over competition, and an ability to come out with flying colours in any given situation. It is a right step towards building the foundation of a global citizen, well aware of global rudimentaries.
