Everyday we access lots of information in our life. Imagine, if we get it only in form of words and numbers, how difficult it would be? Total Confusion! Hence we represent the information in graphical format i.e. Information graphics or Infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly. Everyday we see infographics in different forms like ads, banners, maps, graphs etc. They can improve cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system's ability to see patterns and trends. The process of creating infographics can be referred to as data visualization, information design, or information architecture. The Adage "A picture is worth a thousand wordss", refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image. It also aptly characterizes one of the main goals of visualization, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. The expression "Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words." appears in a 1911 newspaper article quoting newspaper editor Arthur Brisbane discussing journalism and publicity.Many news based websites have also used interactive information graphics in which the user can extract information on a subject as they explore the graphic. Many businesses use infographics as a tool for communicating with and attracting potential customers. Information graphics are a form of content marketing and have become a tool for internet marketers and companies to create content that others will link to, thus possibly boosting a company's reputation and online presence. Nowadays many job seekers use infographic resume to make it more expressive. Infographics using a variety of tools may encourage engagement in the offices, clients or classroom and may lead to a better understanding of the concepts they are mapping onto the graphics. Thus helps to reasoning and analysis. With the popularity of social media, infographics have become popular, often as static images or simple web interfaces, covering any number of topics. Such infographics are often shared between users of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The hash tag #infographic was tweeted 56,765 times in March 2012 and at its peak 3,365 times in a span of 24 hours. There are various web based tools available to generate infographics viz. piktochart, Coolinfographics, infogram etc.
The Infographics have 5 Cs features:1.Clear: Infographics helps makes information clear and neat, easy to understand and lucid.2.Concise: It gives detailed information clearly and in few words. Pie chart, graphs, images makes brief but comprehensive.3.Conceptual: The things like imaginations, reasonings, generalizations which we can't express in writing can be easily put in infographics thus we can relate to the concepts.4.Comparative: We can simply compare data, features, information by using infographics.5.Conclusive: Infographics is decision making tools. Based on various findings from it you can pertain conclusion from it.
