Intercambios - Learning English Through Conversation

Language exchanges or intercambios are where two different languages are spoken in a relaxed atmostphere. We will use Japanese as well as English in this example. In Tokyo there are many different places that host language exchanges. As you are learning English you will be able to go and speak English with native English speakers. These same native English speakers want to learn Japanese so you both exchange your native languages and help each other with your learning.There are two types of langauge exchanges: One-to-one or within a group. Group exchanges mean that you will be able to go and practise your English with different English speakers. They are usually relaxed and mean that you will be able to confidently practise. After all, everyone there is in the process of learning a language and will make as many mistakes as you. It is quite easy to fin a language exchange. You can check your local paper or search for one online.One-to-one exchanges are also quite common. You can look for one online or you could hand out fliers or put up notices where English speakers generally go. A one-to-one exchange is more personal and usually means that after a while you will develop a relationship. A good partner is someone who listens carefully to you and corrects your mistakes.Language exchanges give you the opportunity to practise what you have learned on your online English course. If you have just learned certain English irregular verbs then you would want to try and use them in normal conversation.
