Apple's share of the UK PC market increased by 9.1 per cent in the final quarter of 2011, according to new research.
A report from analyst firm Gartner revealed that Apple sold 267,000 Macs during the period, while market leader HP saw its share of the PC sector drop to 21 per cent.
Overall, the PC market in western Europe declined by 16 per cent between the fourth quarter of 2010 and the corresponding period last year.
PC shipments in the UK totalled 2.9 million units for the final quarter of 2011 - a decline of 19.6 per cent on the previous year.

The findings indicate that budgetary pressures for executives in IT jobs are causing them to put off upgrading PCs and migrating to Windows 7, while tablet computers and mobile devices are also becoming more popular.
Ranjit Atwal, research director at Gartner, commented: "The UK market has been a prime illustration of the underlying weakness in PC demand across western Europe."
