Nursing is one of the most beautiful and serving career which most of the ladies wish to opt after their 10th or II PUC. Indian Nursing Council (INC) is the statutory body that regulates the nursing education in India and maintain the quality of the nursing education.
The INC has organized six stages of nursing education, which are Mutty Purpose Health Worker Female Training (ANM or MPHW-F), Female Health Supervisor Training (HV or MPHS-F), General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM), B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing, M.Phil and PhD. The GNM, ANM and HV courses are conducted in the nursing schools where as the B.Sc, M.Sc and M.Phil are the university level courses and the respective universities conduct examinations for those courses. Added to this, there are several diploma courses conducted by various top universities in India. In order to have a successful nursing career, you must choose the area of specialization and the suitable course. Pre-requisites for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) One should complete their 12th standard to get admission for GNM course. Both Arts and Science students are eligible for GNM.The General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course mainly focus on the care of sick admitted in the hospital. Generally, these nursing schools are combined with the teaching hospitals.A three year board examination is conducted for this three year course, upon passing these examinations the students are certified as registered nurse and midwife by the state councils of the respective colleges.
Bachelor of Nursing Course (B.Sc Nursing)
Candidates who wish to pursue Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing should accomplish the two year Pre-University exam or equivalent course recognized universities with science subjects wiz Chemistry, Physics and Biology.Students who completed their vocational courses in Science are also eligible to to pursue Bachelor’s degree course in Nursing.Students who got above 45% in Science subjects and in the qualifying exam are eligible to get admission for Bsc Nursing course.
The Indian National Council (INC) has recognized two levels of Bachelors degree with a regular B.Sc (Post Basic) and the distance B.Sc (Post Basic). The regular B.SC Nursing course is offered for the students who completed two years pre-university course and two years GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) course. The Distance B.Sc (Post Basic) Course is for the students who accomplished two years pre-university course, two years GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) along with two years of working experience.
The candidates who wish to get admission for the above courses should have a certificate in general nursing, should be a registered nurse, should have minimum two years of work experience (not mandatory), should have passed two year Pre-University exam in arts/science/commerce or its equivalent from recognized university, should be medically fit and should have working knowledge in English.
