XAT 2017, section wise strategies and suggestions to improve
With XAT being barely two months away, all of the students would be tightening their seat belts to face the same. Like any other competitive exam, it tests a candidate’s language, reasoning, and critical thinking abilities. An average of 4-5 hours needs to be spent every day for the exam preparation. Every day of a particular week can be earmarked for solving sample question papers and an in-depth analysis of the stronger and weaker areas. Such mock tests also help to gain insight into the thinking approach exercised and rectify them to deliver a better performance in the XAT exam. The month just before the exam could be entirely devoted to practicing mock question papers to focus on weaker areas from each section and work hard on them. This process becomes easier when strategies are set for every section as each of them true to their name have a different approach that needs to be undertaken.Scanning newspapers for updates on Sports, Politics, personalities in news and current affairs in a national as well as an international context is of particular importance while preparing for the GK section which does not have a fixed syllabus. A perusal of a business periodical and in-depth understanding of major issues happening across are recommended to track the tricky questions from this section. Reading editorials, looking up for new words and their synonyms would be of help while attempting the Verbal and Logical Ability Section. The past exam papers have illustrated that if the language is not learnt the right way, this might pose difficulty in getting through the exam. The Decision making section differentiates XAT from the other exams where the thinking approach of the candidates is put to test. It tests a candidate's perspective to the reality in the world outside which runs on Maths, General knowledge, cognitive thinking and luck in equal measure. The previous year question papers included questions that needed courses of action in a particular sequence to be ranked in an order of priority. Apart from making decisions, it examines the ability of candidates to comprehend and interpret the data represented in the questions well. The quantitative section is the place to score as the use of standard techniques to eliminate options and arrive at correct answers should be doable with consistent practice. The Data interpretation section being conceptual and lengthy requires a student to be in sync with the data given and interpret them in the correct way to solve the same. The essay section usually consists of topics with open scope for explanation and analysis, but structured writing by means of exploring viewpoints and opinions through relevant examples that would have happened in recent circumstances also not giving out on expression of clear understanding of what the topic means are some things that need to be prioritized while attempting this section. Starting of essays with quotes makes a good impression at the beginning. Wherever the topics examine the potential of two aspects and their relationship, arriving at a sensible conclusion also makes ensure that the essay ends on an impressionable note. Thus, by adopting strategies on the lines explained above, a student can confidently determine his scale and quantum of preparation investing time accordingly to yield the desired results.
