NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will showcase the original works of Sydnei SmithJordan in the "Breaking with Realism" exhibition. The event kicks off on September 2, 2017, and runs until September 22, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 7, from 6-8 pm.
Sydnei SmithJordan's life story is one of resilience and transformation. Overcoming a challenging childhood, she has harnessed her experiences to create art that delves into the core aspects of human existence. Her unique style, marked by technical mastery, addresses themes such as religion, culture, sexuality, and politics, examining their influence on individual identity.
SmithJordan's use of a limited color palette adds an immediacy to her work, inviting viewers to engage deeply with her pieces. Her paintings often feature confronting figures and faces that boldly reveal their intrinsic nature. "I reach deep into all that is true in myself and my unconscious mind; be they experience, dreamscapes, or the past," she explains.
SmithJordan's artistic journey began at the College of Design, Art, and Architecture at Santa Monica College, where she studied Fine Art. She further honed her skills by earning a Master’s Degree from the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design. Currently, she resides and works in New Jersey, continuing to push the boundaries of her creative expression.
