Henry Stone, a legendary figure in the independent music scene who sold over 100 million records across genres like R&B, soul, funk, disco, and hip hop, discovered the group Little Pebbles in Morocco during his final vacation. On his deathbed at Mt. Sinai Hospital, he urged his son Joe, the current head of Henry Stone Music Inc., to sign, record, and distribute their music.
Little Pebbles is composed of lead singer Rhyse, guitarist K’Lib, and master percussionist Honey. Their musical journey has taken them around the globe and into studios with legends such as Notorious B.I.G. and B.B. King.
K’Lib recalls, “I met Rhyse during an Ayurvedic retreat in India. We had taken a vow of silence for three weeks. One day, while washing rice, we created a little groove and discovered we were both musicians.”
The group formed and traveled through the Sahara Desert, eventually settling in Morocco. There, they met Honey and began performing in smoky clubs in the heart of the old town.
K’Lib reminisces, “One day, Honey’s camel got into our tent and ate an eight-ounce bag of Kashmiri hashish. We were playing at a small bar in Marrakesh when Henry Stone walked in. He listened to us all night, and during a break, he approached us and said, ‘I gotta take you guys to Miami! I got a studio there in my back pocket. I’m the record man, dig? You’re not black, you’re not pop, you’re not R&B. But you got soul, some kind of magic soul.’”
Earlier this year, Little Pebbles relocated to the Miami vodou realms of Little Haiti, not far from Iggy Pop’s Fun House. They have been writing and recording ever since.
Their stark tracks evoke a road-weary love trauma that is both abject and inviting. Lead singer Rhyse explains, “Our music is intentionally haunting, but it’s honest in its darkness. It’s a feeling of truth from the abysmal depths of a dark place where beauty and connectivity are born, live, and die inside a lonesome heart.”
Little Pebbles, discovered by the legendary Henry Stone, are making waves with their haunting and soulful music. Their journey from the Sahara Desert to the Miami vodou realms is a testament to their unique sound and artistic vision. As they continue to write and record, their music promises to captivate audiences worldwide.
