NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original works of Jiri Maska in the exhibition "Sensorial Realities." The event kicks off on July 5, 2017, and runs until July 25, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, July 6, from 6-8 pm.
Czech artist Jiri Maska is renowned for his majestic and visceral creations. Utilizing mixed media, Maska crafts highly textured tableaux that narrate compelling stories. His works are distinguished by bold, graphic lines and vibrant colors. Often, Maska juxtaposes contrasting shades to create an intense, otherworldly effect. His figures, while stylized, retain a complexity that adds depth to the shifting patchwork of shadows in the background.
Maska draws inspiration from some of the oldest and most profound stories known to humanity, such as the epic of Gilgamesh and various biblical narratives. His interests transcend national and chronological boundaries, capturing figures in dynamic motion at the peak of their dramatic arcs. Maska does not shy away from the darker aspects of these tales, instead choosing to illuminate all facets and uncover the grace within each story.
Born in Razice, Czechoslovakia, Jiri Maska has exhibited his work globally, including in France, China, Australia, Uruguay, Holland, Canada, and the United States. His international exhibitions have cemented his reputation as a significant contemporary artist.
Agora Gallery's group exhibition "Sensorial Realities" offers nine distinct journeys into new and challenging worlds. The exhibition includes paintings, mixed-media works, ceramics, and sculptures, each exploring landscape, narrative, abstraction, and portraiture in unique ways.
With thoughtful technical experimentation and flawless execution, "Sensorial Realities" showcases artists operating at their most intelligent and provocative levels.
