The Black Tie Gala held on August 11, 2007, at Michael's On East in Sarasota, FL, was a night to remember. Hosted by Century 21, this event was a benefit for Easter Seals Southwest Florida and featured an array of entertainment, luxurious decor, and a guest list of Sarasota's elite. The evening was a testament to the community's generosity and the organizers' dedication to creating an unforgettable experience.
The assignment began like many others for my video journal team, consisting of cameraman Bret and his gaffer/key grip Brendon. We were tasked with covering the Century 21 Alliance's 2nd Annual Yellow Rose Black Tie Gala, held on August 11, 2007, as a benefit for Easter Seals Southwest Florida.
Upon arriving at Michael's On East in Sarasota, FL, it was clear that the sponsors had gone all out. The event's entrance featured a long, private glass-covered atrium adorned with colorful French café murals, fabulous flowing fountains, and lush tropical plants. The Who's Who of Sarasota's movers and shakers were in attendance, dressed immaculately for this Black Tie affair.
Entering the main ballroom at Michael's On East was a luxurious treat. The rich jewel tones of the decor, combined with the patrons' attire, created an atmosphere of elegance. Custom lucite centerpieces on each table, illuminated from below with multi-colored lights, looked like they belonged in an art exhibit.
The evening's entertainment was nothing short of spectacular. Local celebrity guest MC Ray Collins from Fox 13 set the tone for the night. The organizers had spared no expense in providing a variety of entertainment to ensure everyone had a wonderful time.
One of the personal highlights for me was the smooth Jazz and R&B sounds brought by Mr. Henry Lawrence. A three-time Super Bowl Champion, Lawrence has transitioned into a promising singing career. He was joined by National Recording Artist Twinkle Schascle Yochim, who has performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland with Eric Clapton's band under the direction of Quincy Jones. Her performance won her international critical acclaim.
Easter Seals Southwest Florida, the beneficiary of this gala, provides exceptional services, education, outreach, and advocacy so that people living with autism and other disabilities can live, learn, work, and play in their communities. According to the CDC, approximately 1 in 54 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) source. Events like this gala are crucial in supporting organizations that make a significant impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities.
The combined talent and incredible presence of the artists, along with the breathtaking ambiance, made this event possibly the best in Sarasota for the year. The Century 21 Alliance's 2nd Annual Yellow Rose Black Tie Gala was not just an evening of elegance and entertainment but also a powerful demonstration of community support for a worthy cause.
