NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will showcase the original works of Nancy Landauer in the exhibition "Breaking with Realism." The event kicks off on September 2, 2017, and runs until September 22, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 7, from 6-8 pm.
American artist Nancy Landauer is renowned for her rhythmical and expressive mixed media creations. Utilizing acrylic, oil pastel, and paper collage, Landauer intricately layers her canvases with meticulously designed patterns. Her works often feature glass beads, rhinestones, and other embellishments, adding a unique texture and depth to each piece. This layering technique allows her to weave together color and pattern, creating a dynamic interplay that is both fragmented and cohesive.
Music plays a pivotal role in Landauer's creative process. Each piece she creates is influenced by the music she listens to, adding an auditory dimension to her visual art. This is akin to how a musician layers different instruments to create a harmonious composition. The result is a series of artworks that, while inventive and complex, each convey a singular, clear idea.
In addition to her abstract pieces, Landauer also produces representational works inspired by the music she listens to. These pieces often feature a central figure surrounded by playful colors and patterns. Musical icons, text, and archival photographs are interwoven with geometric designs, creating a vibrant homage to past decades—from the pop art of the sixties to the graphic styles of the eighties—infused with a contemporary twist.
Nancy Landauer studied illustration in New York City and currently resides in Westport, Connecticut. Her educational background and current environment continue to influence her artistic journey.
