NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original works of Alex Osborne in the exhibition "Breaking with Realism." The event kicks off on September 2, 2017, and runs until September 22, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 7, from 6-8 pm.
Alex Osborne is a painter captivated by the essence of motion. His artwork seems to burst with energy, sending vibrant colors in all directions. Osborne's focus on action is a deliberate stance against societal stagnation. "In today's world, many of us feel trapped, whether in a job or a relationship," he explains. "But just like rivers flow and paint spreads, life is always in motion."
Osborne's pieces often feature single-word titles, pop culture references, and whimsical elements like "electric cheese," taking viewers on a journey from the psychedelic to the sublime. He constantly experiments with various mediums, including resin, acrylic, and digital painting techniques. For Osborne, experimentation is crucial. He believes that artists must be fearless. During his first painting class, while his peers donned coverups to protect their clothes, Osborne saw his own t-shirt and jeans as an additional canvas.
The exhibition "Breaking with Realism" will also feature works from:
"Breaking with Realism" is a collective exhibition that delves into the unique perspectives of 18 artists on themes such as spirituality, humanity, and the natural world. Utilizing a variety of mediums, the exhibition examines how dynamic arrangements of color, texture, line, and composition can profoundly affect the human experience.
Art has a significant impact on human emotions and perceptions. According to a study by the University of London, viewing art can trigger a surge of dopamine, the brain's "feel-good" chemical, comparable to the feeling of falling in love (source). This exhibition aims to evoke such visceral reactions through its diverse and dynamic presentations.
Alex Osborne's work is a testament to the power of motion and experimentation in art. His fearless approach and dynamic use of color and medium invite viewers to experience the world in a new, vibrant way. The "Breaking with Realism" exhibition at Agora Gallery offers a unique opportunity to explore these themes through the eyes of 18 talented artists.
