NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery is set to showcase the original works of Rodica Iliesco, known professionally as Rody, in the exhibition "Pathways." The event kicks off on September 26, 2017, and runs until October 17, 2017, with an opening reception on Thursday, September 28, from 6-8 pm.
Rodica Iliesco, or Rody, masterfully captures the romantic and ethereal essence of Paris, particularly during and after the Belle Époque era (1871-1914). Her paintings depict a city brimming with love, light, and artistic fervor, where poets and artists lead a life as effervescent as champagne. Rody's work also delves into the grittier aspects of old Paris, portraying scenes of loose women and men engaged in gambling and brawling. Drawing inspiration from vintage photographs and her vivid imagination, Rody aims to offer viewers an escape from reality. Each of her compositions features a splash of red, intended to "wake up the eye" and infuse her paintings with joy and boldness.
Born in Romania, Rody grew up listening to her father's tales of being an artist in 1920s Paris. When she eventually traveled to Paris to study at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, she felt an immediate sense of belonging. Today, Rody is an Honorary Citizen of the Republic of Montmartre, a testament to her deep connection with the city.
The "Pathways" exhibition will feature works from a diverse group of artists, including:
