From May 29th to August 2nd, Rome will transform into the global hub of photography. During this period, the Eternal City will host the 8th edition of "FotoGrafia," an international photography festival highly esteemed by photography enthusiasts worldwide.

A Rich and Diverse Program

The FotoGrafia festival offers a comprehensive and varied program,Rome: FotoGrafia, International Photography Festival, 29th May – 2nd August 2009 Articles featuring exhibitions by renowned Italian and international photographers. The event also includes artist meet-and-greets, workshops, photo book presentations, and award ceremonies. Artistic director Marco Delogu aims to make FotoGrafia a vibrant meeting space and an unmissable opportunity to discuss photography.

Main Venue and Additional Spaces

The primary venue for the festival is the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, where the most significant events and official exhibitions will take place. However, numerous other galleries and spaces across Rome will also participate.

This year's festival, which continues to gain international acclaim, will prominently feature new forms of photographic expression. Expect to see photos, projections, and video installations from a curated selection of artists exploring the theme "Joy: Visions and Representations."

Highlighted Themes and Exhibitions

In addition to the central theme of joy, the festival will cover various other topics, offering visitors a chance to explore multiple exhibitions:

  • Mutations II: This exhibition will showcase works by approximately 20 European artists who explore the intersection of photo experimentation and video.
  • From Soul to Body: Photography enthusiasts can enjoy Davide Monteleone's photos from his journey in the Russian Caucasus.

Focus on Rome

The festival will also spotlight Rome, dedicating three events to the host city:

  1. Roma Oculta: Ecuadorian photographer Geovanny Verdezoto, winner of the 2008 IILA award, spent a month in Rome capturing the city's multiethnicity, focusing on its religious faiths and fanaticisms.
  2. Guy Tillim's Rome: South African photographer Guy Tillim offers a stark, cold, and somber portrayal of everyday life in Rome, challenging the traditional image of the city as a glorious metropolis.
  3. In Between_60 Hours in Rome: About 30 photographers captured Rome over 60 hours, from May 29th to 31st. The project focused on an "in-between" area, blending the city's historic grandeur with modern urban development.
