So you’ve met the man or woman of your dreams – you’ve done the dating thing, you’ve gone steady, you’ve got serious and now you’re ready to propose marriage. The big question (aside from ‘will it be a yes?’) is how will you do it?

It almost goes without saying that however you propose marriage,Ideas for Marriage Proposals That No Woman Could Refuse Articles it should be done with some sort of engagement ring. Why ‘some sort’? Well, it may be that the ring you propose with is not the real engagement ring – if you do not have the confidence to buy an engagement ring that will create the ‘wow’ factor and elicit a ‘yes’, you may want to propose with a faux ring, made of plastic or wood until you buy the real thing with your fiance.

Engagement Rings at the Ready

We’re going to assume that you have a ring in your pocket for all of our proposal ideas (humorous, traditional and downright silly). You may (or may not) find the inspiration you are looking for! Read on.

Traditional Proposals

Have a traditional public proposal of marriage in mind? Here’s what you might want to include:

  • The ‘big chat’ with your prospective father-in-law in which you respectfully ask permission to marry his daughter or son

  • A beautiful bling ring – e.g. solitaire diamond engagement ring

  • Flowers, dinner and dancing at a favorite restaurant

  • Bended knee and a heartfelt request to that special someone

  • Make the moment even more memorable with a special song playing, a live musical serenade or a ring presented in part of the dinner itself (cake or glass)

  • Tip: Only choose this option if you are sure of the answer, a public refusal can be hard to swallow!

High Flying Proposals

Want to propose at a dizzying height? Here are a few ideas to send hearts soaring:

  • Get flighty – book a scenic flight, upgrade your seats or make a vacation super memorable with a proposal onboard an aeroplane (Tip: Propose on the way home just in case the answer is ‘no’!)

  • Climb up high to a local beauty spot – bridge, mountain or tower and ideally by sunset or dawn, propose with a ring at the summit

  • Book a hot-air balloon flight, take the champagne and propose in the basket (who could say no?)

Adrenalin Rush Proposals

Feel the love on a rush of adrenalin? Why not try:

  • Bungy jumping – one of the ultimate adrenalin rushes, jumping from way up high secured by your ankles alone is not for the feint-hearted but what a way to prove commitment – you can even jump in tandem. Propose before or after!

  • Jet skiing – Speed over the waves and when you stop for a breather, whip a ring out of your wetsuit! (Tip: Take the plastic faux ring not the diamond engagement ring for this one)

  • Scuba – Dive to the depths, propose with your ring, get the thumbs up and surface to celebrate!

Funny Proposals

You could take this category literally and propose marriage at a comedy club, but you seriously risk getting laughed at. How about these ideas for a fun-loving fiance:

  • Propose in the nude - take me as I am! (Tip: Best tried at home)

  • Pose the big question with a self-penned song or a poem (could be especially funny if you can’t sing a note)

  • Spell it out with a big gesture: stones on the beach, scoreboards at the game, placards on the road, sign-writing in the sky

Everyday Proposals

Some of the romantic moments can be created from and in the most ordinary of situations. Proposing marriage does not have to be a big public event or an out-of-the ordinary expensive adventure, a heartfelt, moving proposal can be made in any of the following ways:

  • Over the washing up (put a ring in the soapsuds)

  • Gardening (make sure he or she digs up your ring)

  • Making a cup of coffee (substitute the ring for a sugar lump)

  • Taking a ride in the car (put a ring on the steering wheel).

Got some ideas? Good luck and don’t forget the ring!
