Is It Time For You To Move Home?
How do you judge when it is the right time for you to relocate? That's not always an easy question to answer, although the fact that you're even thinking about this issue is a pretty good indicator of the fact that a move may be imminent.
There are occasions where a course of action appears to be particularly obvious to most people. If you are making a significant career move,
for example, then you may have decided that you also need to think about where you live. Indeed, there may be a practical aspect associated with this decision.
I'm always intrigued to hear about people who are happy to deal with lengthy commutes to work. I guess that one reason why I find this so interesting is because I know that I would struggle, if I were to have a long journey into work. In part, the problem can be seen as being the amount of time that you lose.
You may not start work until 9 o'clock in the morning, but a commute of an hour or more can really extend your day. That's additional time that you won't be spending with your family. It's time that doesn't really offer you many extra options.
But the time element is only one factor to consider in that situation. There's also the fact that you'll be dealing with more hassle as a result. Most of us will rely on some form of transport to get to work, which almost always ensures that stress levels are likely to rise. You may worry about catching the bus, or making your connecting train.
All of these stresses can take their toll and may lead you to conclude that it would be easier to live somewhere that offers faster access to the workplace. But are all moving decisions based upon such obvious practicalities? I don't think that it would be true to say that they are.
We may sometimes find that we buy a home that reflects our position at that point in time. We may opt for something that appears to stretch our finances, but that is realistic. What happens when the financial situation changes and you can afford a little more?
In these circumstances, an interesting decision arises. You may not feel like you particularly need to move home, but you suddenly have the opportunity to buy a property that's larger, or that is located somewhere different. This can certainly be tempting.
If you're thinking about moving, then it's important to discuss your options with other family members. This could be a good time to consider whether you need to relocate.
