Today it is very easy to get nutritious juice from the comfort of your kitchen. Numerous juicers are available on the market in different brand, style and price. The brand and the price are however not the most important characteristics of the product. What really matters is how they work. From all juicing methods, masticating juicers are the most popular ones.

Mastication,Masticating Juicers 101 Articles also known as chewing, is the way fruits are crushed and ground. By chewing the food it is simpler to breakdown to the food’s fiber and the juice is obtained by pressing it out of the pulp.

Masticating juicers can be divided into two distinct categories according how they “chew” the food. The first method is the single auger, which is a drill bit. The rotating auger chews and crushes the food, which becomes a paste. The juice is released as the paste is pressed.

Other masticating juicers are known as triturating juicers and have a dual gear system. Through trituration the food is broken down to small pieces. These commercial juicers are quite expensive but have several advantages as they are excellent at what they can do. The two gears press the food and the triturating process delivers a large amount of juice. These machines can also be used to make sorbet and nut butters. Pasta attachments can also be provided with.

Compared to centrifugal juicers, the masticating juicers have a much slower rotation, limiting the amount of foam found in the juice. Lower friction also results in less heat and thus vitamins and other vital nutrients are not destroyed. However, some patience is required because of the lower speed of the juicer. It takes longer to obtain the juice with masticating juicers, but the juice is much better and healthier.

The main difference between masticating juicers and centrifugal juicing machines is that the masticating type works at a lower speed (cc. 80-120 rpm) generating less heat during the juicing process.

All commercial juicing machines want the same thing: to offer a superior nutrition level. Still, keep in mind that if you want to take advantage of the health benefits of juicing, you need to use these machines. The juicer you want to purchase basically depends on your needs and preferences. Still, one of the main qualities of a juicer is without any doubts its ease of use. Basically, any commercial juicer currently available on the market can deliver healthy nutrition as long as you use it.

The whole reason I got into using masticating juicers was that I heard that they were able to make more nutritious drinks than the faster centrifugal juicers. At first I thought this was just a marketing gimmick but after I’d done a bit more research I started to think that the slower speed may actually have an impact upon the type of drink that I could make.
