Everyone who has ever been a child would know about the joys of coming home after school and settling in front of the television to watch their favorite super heroes in action. Following the success of these cartoons, marketing companies came up with action figures to cash in on the popularity of the television franchises.
Almost every character in the television shows comes in the form of three-dimensional action figures with several accessories and a great level of articulation so that you can let your imagination run wild. Many of the more popular characters include swords, guns and sheaths by default, and several additional accessories may be purchased separately as well. The articulation however is where the real fun begins. The television figures display a wide range of body movements such as extending or twisting off their limbs, and all this can be found in most action figures available on the market today, making them much more entertaining and interesting and helping to boost their popularity.
Many figures also come with vehicles which are either included in the package or need to be purchased separately. Several people may not be interested in this, however, since they tend to be big and bulky and difficult to store. But for those who are interested, these vehicles may prove to be a real treat. For example, a model may include a button which separate the body from the base, or even feature shooting missiles, rotating guns or canopies to give a true thrill.
Many action figures from the 70s and 80s have now become collectors’ items with interest in the hobby exploding as many of the old favourites have been transformed into Hollywood blockbuster movies and many have been revived as animated series. Several new versions are also coming up as marketers try to promote the Hollywood movies or animated series, with many more exciting features and articulation options that would not have been available say ten years ago. There is hardly any pose that most action figures today cannot accommodate, and the tight joints make it all that more pleasurable to display and play with them. Advances in production techniques over the past ten years have resulted in durability and faster colors which do not fade easily and make the figure look more realistic. They have also made sharper detailing possible, so that facial features stand out and accessories appear to be better finished, sharper, sleeker and cleaner.
