Civic welfare is also taken care of effectively by the concerned authorities. The provision of mineral water is an important issue which is effectively being enforced. Their aggressive efforts are showing results and bringing change in the desired direction.
NGO is the acronym for Non Government Organisation. The word first came into existence in the year 1945 by the United Nations. This word emphasise on the formation of organizations which are neither private nor belonging to the government entity, though it is eligible for funding by both. But some still believe in raising funds voluntarily. In Delhi itself there are many NGO setups. The National Capital Region (NCR) has as many as hundreds of these organisations which primarily work for the development and welfare of fellow citizens.
The organisations work in the following spheres:
* Welfare of the children. Especially, the under privileged ones who are either poor or homeless. They are provided shelter and equipped with minimum education schemes.
* Looking after the senior citizens by making them aware of their rights bestowed on them by the government.
* Working largely for the well being of the women who are victims of domestic violence and other prevalent vices of the society.
* Taking care of the stray animals like dogs, cats and cows and making them open for adoption in centers which work for their well being.
* Working for the development of the environment and doing activities which help in conserving the natural resources, for eg., water and trees. The ongoing activities of deforestation are put under check.
* They take up issues of health and sanitation and work towards achieving the same right from the grass root level which means that they educate the people of slum areas about the importance of hygiene.
* Water is a major issue. The safety of drinking water is of utmost importance to achieve a health optimum state. Most of the diseases are born due to faulty drinking water. They try that mineral water in Delhi should be made available for people belonging to all strata of life. NGO work for the upliftment of water related problems and even look into the scarce supply.
* During the time of natural disasters like earthquake and floods, the NGOs come forward to send help in the affected areas. They collect food supplies, clothes and other items of use to send to the people hit by the disaster. Cheques are also given to the very needy people.
These are just to mention a few areas which the NGO aims to look after. Few private companies do fund raising activities on behalf of the NGOs. These companies indulge in sports and cultural items and sponsor various functions to raise funds for them. Apart from this, many self motivated people come forward to serve the society in some way or the other. People give donations to such organisations so that the organisation can pump enough resources and help the needy. NGOs are giving remarkable contribution in the field of human welfare.
