The last few weeks of summer usually seem like a magical time to spend outdoors, but there are things that you need to be aware of, especially during the middle of the day. This is the time when the sun is hot, getting hotter and raising temperatures to dangerous levels. Sunscreen can provide some protection but there are other sun related issues that are important and can have a negative impact of your health.

With the increased number of flavored drinks being available, water is becoming less of a drink that is enjoyed outdoors and these drinks can actually cause dehydration to become worse than it is. In fact these drinks are probably the last thing you would want to try to keep hydrated with. Some of these better known drinks include, but certainly not limited to this list include soda, coffee, tea and energy drinks. These drinks should only be consumed as secondary drinks and water being the primary drink to help keep everyone hydrated. There is no substitute for water as part of your keeping healthy plan.

Other problems that you should be concerned with when outdoors and especially with your friends and when alcohol is involved is overheating. If this happens it is very very important to bring down the body temperature very quickly to avoid a crisis. Submerging the body in cold water will help do this and a shower or dip in a pool or a body of water will also help. Using ice or cold beverages will speed up the cooling process. Many public events have a cool down tent especially during hot summer months along with shady areas, fans and a cooling mist all of which will control overheating before a serious health problem develops.

If you are the host of a gathering, you should start by making the start and ending time a little later in the day, to allow the day to cool off as people begin to gather. During the middle of the day can really be dangerous for some people. Be sure to to have more than one person keeping an eye of the guests who might be getting too much sun and turning red or over sweating signaling a possible overheating situation. The event can happen and everyone who is in attendance can have a really great time if you keep these pointers and tips in mind during any summertime get together.
