We are all familiar to a kind of sugar,Dextrose: Drug or Candy Articles dextrose. Someone argues that it belongs to sweeteners, while others treat it as drugs. In fact, it is either a drug or a candy. Although it is beneficial to our health, we should treat it in a scientific way. Or it will do harms to our health.

It is said that dextrose is nutritious and easy to absorb. To help their children gain more nutrition, many parents choose to add some dextrose powders to the milk every time or let their children drink liquid dextrose between the meals. Are such measures right and safe? Dieticians do not think so. They suggest that drinking some pure water instead of dextrose between two meals is more appropriate. In fact, such an action aims to help children have enough water and moisturize their oral cavity. There is no need feeding dextrose in particular.

Taking a large amount of dextrose for a long time is unhealthy for children. First of all, dextrose is a drug, which is usually sold in the form of liquor. Sometimes people are not able to ingest adequate saccharine through eating. They need the help of this liquor. Actually, the ingredients of dextrose are similar to those of ordinary sugar. It is the decomposed monosaccharide that differs them from each other. In other words, dextrose is decomposed, while sugar is not. But their functions are almost the same. Secondly, some parents hold the view that dextrose is more beneficial because it can be directly absorbed by the intestines. As a result, they have their children eat no granulated sugar but dextrose. It is a myth. Eating dextrose for a long time will weaken the intestines of children. They are dependent on simple monosaccharide and could not digest and absorb in a normal way. The burden of intestines is not that heavy when dextrose is absorbed immediately, but the functions of amylases and other enzymes would degenerate. In the long run, innutrition would occur.

There are some other disadvantages of drinking dextrose. Children would form the bad habit of eating sweets. It is difficult to kick off and may lead to obesity. Meanwhile, the sugar would stay in the oral cavity for a long time. Acidification would easily happen when the bacteria are fermented. As a result, decayed teeth become not rare. Some babies would also become picky in eating. Though some research has indicated that eating something sweet could calm the babies or make them asleep, such an action could not take from time to time.

We can naturally come to a conclusion that long-time or frequent taking of dextrose is not suitable for children. Those who are lacking in amylases could take some with the guidance of doctors.
