One of the most important aspects to any cosmetic surgery is your plastic surgeon. How well your procedure actually turns out will depend on a wide variety of factors including you, the procedure, and the doctor’s skill level.
It's important to do your research ahead of time so you understand every aspect of your surgery. You should never go into any surgery unprepared, or you may be surprised by the outcome. 
By the time you have a consultation with your plastic surgeon you should be fully aware of every aspect of the procedure you're about to undertake. This means you should be aware of the methodology, risk factors, and benefits to your surgery. If you are considering breast augmentation for example there is a multitude of ways your surgeon can insert your implant. If you are not aware of those options you may choose a surgeon who does not enlighten you and be unhappy with your scar or surgical results.  This is why it's very important to know what you're getting into ahead of time.

If you choose a doctor who is skilled in one area cosmetic surgery but not the area that you are undertaking you may not be happy with the results. There are several organizations that can help guide your selection process. The American Board of plastic surgeons is one of the largest organizations in the world and has been around since 1931. This is a good source for finding a skilled plastic surgeon in your area that specializes in the cosmetic surgery you are planning to undertake.
But don't just count on referrals if to hire a doctor. You should also take advantage of your consultation visit to interview any potential doctor before you jump into a surgery. A consultation is not just about finding out if you're a good candidate for procedure it's also about finding out if the doctor you're talking to is a good candidate to do it.
You should feel comfortable talking to your doctor and feel comfortable not only asking questions but in getting answers. If you're uncomfortable asking your doctor questions or you don't feel like you're getting answers to your questions you do ask, you probably should find someone else. No matter how highly your doctor is recommended if you're not comfortable enough to talk to them, it's not a good match.
It’s a  good idea to make a list of questions to ask your doctor during the consultation not only about the procedure itself but about their skill level, their training, and how much expertise they have in this particular procedure so you know exactly who you’re getting.
