Hair Restoration Center: Some Things You Should Know

A hair restoration center uses one or possibly several different surgical methods to give a balding male or female the chance to regrow their own natural hair. What would have seemed like science fiction a few decades ago is now a reality. What once gave decidedly doll-hair type results can now give you the type of results that will be completely indistinguishable by onlookers. Fair warning, however: the procedures provided by a hair restoration center are typically rather expensive. On the other hand, with the general failure of drugs such as Propecia and Rogaine to do anything meaningful to help restore lost hair, it is the only way to restore that hairline.

Male pattern baldness is fairly genetic in nature. It used to be thought that you could look at your maternal grandfather to determine whether or not you would experience hair loss problems as you got older, but that myth has been largely dispelled. Of course, it could indicate such a thing, but your genetics come from a variety of places and which ones you get is mostly decided by chance. Even if every member of your family for as far back as you can remember had a full head of hair, it doesn't mean your great-great grandfather didn't sneak some bald genes in the mix somewhere that may have skipped several generations.

The jury is still out when it comes to factors other than genetic that could contribute to male pattern baldness and the acceleration of the process. There is certainly no lack of literature on the subject, but much of it is junk science, if it can even be considered science at all. Making sure your diet is full of vitamins and nutrition certainly won't hurt, but whether or not it will impede the balding process is certainly up for debate. One behavior that has been irrevocably linked to accelerating baldness, however, is the use of anabolic steroids. Steroids won't cause someone without the MPB gene to lose their hair, but those with it might experience hair loss long before they would have naturally.

Following the procedure chosen is, of course, recovery. A hair restoration center provides some of the only techniques that will legitimately bring back hair growth after MPB has set in. Propecia and Rogaine have proven results when it comes to helping people slow the process, but neither of them have had much success in regrowing lost hair. Unless you want to get fitted for a wig or are simply happy with going bald, surgery may be your only chance to retrieve your old hairline. Typically, the procedure is done by taking hair grafts from the back of the head and surgically implanting them into the needed areas. These follicles are immune to DHT, the primary hormone that causes male pattern baldness. Therefore, they will not be subject to further damage caused by MPB process.
