Every year many people, mainly children, are infected with head lice. The effectiveness of chemicals products is no longer proven. But a head lice comb is a sure way to overcome lice.
Why spend money on toxic and sometimes dangerous products,
when the key to getting rid of lice one and for all is combing the infested hair with a head lice comb? A scientific study conducted by the British Medical Journal showed that combing the hair regularly was the most effective solution to remove lice and nits, more than any other solution or chemical lice shampoo.
Follow the tips below to make sure you use your head lice comb effectively and get maximum results.
1. Place a white towel around the shoulders of the person, and then start by untangling the hair with an ordinary comb or brush. This will facilitate the use of the head lice comb. You can also wash your hair with shampoo before combing in order to make it softer.
2. Wet the hair or coat it with olive oil, so that the combing with the head lice comb does not catch any hair, thus avoiding knots.
3. With one hand, take a handful of hair (the width of a comb) and use your other hand to comb, starting as close as possible to the base of the hair and combing to the tip of the hair. This will enable you to get rid of the highest number of lice and nits. Comb several times if necessary.
It is important not to comb too much hair at the same time; instead you should divide the hair into very small sections and carefully comb each one of them. You can then take each section of cleaned hair and put it on the side of the head, fastening it with a hair clip, so that you do not mix it with the hair that is still infected.
Whenever you remove lice and nits from the hair, wipe the head lice comb on a paper towel or rinse it in hot water before proceeding. Repeat the process until there are no more lice or nits when you look at the hair. It is essential to do this under good light conditions; otherwise you will not see the remaining insects or eggs. Eventually, wash the hair with regular shampoo, or hot water.
Spend more time combing around the edge of the ears, and in the neck area, because those are the favorite places for lice. This is due to the fact that blood flows in these areas, and lice are blood sucking insects. These areas are also where you can find the highest number of nits. You should also make sure you wash your head lice comb in hot soapy water after use, and it is recommended to change clothes and wash the removed clothes after each combing session.
You should repeat this treatment every day or every other day to be sure you remove the eggs that have been laid between two combing sessions. This may take a few days until you have killed all remaining lice and nits. As this can last several hours and as we are talking about a child, what you can do is keep him busy by reading a book or do the combing in front of the television.
If you catch lice again, you can still use the same head lice comb, you just need to wash it thoroughly after each treatment.
