any couple suffers from this problem. It could be either in male or female. However, it is not incurable. Treatment of infertility is possible.
Infertility is defined as a failure to become pregnant even after one year of trying to get pregnant. For women who have signs of pregnancyand who get pregnant but are unable to stay pregnant can also be infertile. Pregnancy is a process with many steps. A woman needs to release an egg (ovulation) from her ovaries. The egg must go through a Fallopian tube toward the uterus (womb). Man’s sperm should join the egg (fertilize) along the way and finally the fertilized egg must attach to the uterus (implantation). A problem in any of the process can cause infertility.
Causes of Infertility:
The causes of infertility could be many. Also, it is not necessary that the problem is with the woman. Infertility is seen in men in 40% of the cases. In case of infertility in men and woman, it is important to know how to handle the situation. The reasons for infertility must be known first in order to correct it. The causes of infertility are:
In Men – The reasons for infertility in men could be numerous. A problem called varicocele can be one cause. This happens when the veins on a man’s testicles are large. These heat the testicles that affect the number or shape of sperm. Sometimes the shape of the sperm could be a reason of infertility among men. Injuries to the reproductive system and other damages can also block the sperm leading to infertility.
Sometimes a man’s sperm is affected by birth. Other times, it is because of illness or injury. Cystic fibrosis can also cause infertility in men. The lifestyle of a man can also affect his sperm and be a reason for infertility. These lifestyles include heavy alcohol use, drugs, environmental toxins, and cigarettes etc. Health problems and age can also be a reason for infertility in men.
In Women – main reason for a women’s infertility is ovulation problems. Without ovulation, there would be no eggs to be fertilized. Signs of a woman not ovulating include irregular or absent menstrual periods. Ovulation problems are caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) that is a hormoneimbalance. Other reasons for a women’s infertility could be blocked fallopian tube. This could be due to pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, or a surgery for an ectopic pregnancy. In case a woman has the pregnancy signs but is not able to stay pregnant, then also she could be infertile. This can happen if there are physical problems with the uterus. Uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous clumps of tissue on walls of the uterus, can be another reason.
Apart from the medical reasons, lifestyle of woman can also affect her pregnancy. It could happen that she is waiting for some pregnancy sign, but nothing happens. This will happen when she takes too much stress. Poor diet, athletic training, smoking and drinking, being overweight or underweight or age can also be the factors for women’s infertility.
