The quips and jabs were flying as two noted members of the restaurant business in Licking County showed up for their first weight check in their version of a "Biggest Loser" contest.
Eric Mason, owner of several local restaurants, and Evan Farley, managing owner of the Texas Roadhouse, are both big guys.
Each standing at 6-foot-2, the men also realize they have weight issues and are stepping up to challenge one another to a weight loss challenge.
GM Diet
While their actual weight was not publicly revealed, the goal is to lose the highest percentage of weight by the end of the six-week competition period on Sept. 3. The loser then will pay $500 for two children, ages 8 to 14, to receive a personal trainer and workout session for six weeks.
Negative Calorie
Kevin Rowe, owner of Advantage Fitness, also will donate $500, so two more children, for a total of four, can participate in the challenge.
The loser in the Mason-Farley challenge also will throw the victor a party worth $500.
"We are an example of what not to do," Mason said. "My motivation is that I have a 4- and 2-year-old at home, and I want to see them grow up. I needed something to jump start me, and I am a competitor in whatever I do, so this will be fun."
