Ever experienced and annoying ringing or whooshing sound in your ears after a noisy day? If it’s persistent you may begin to worry but in most cases the ringing just goes away by itself. However,Tinnitus Causes Articles if the ringing is constant and its sounds vary, like buzzing, swishing or humming then it may be tinnitus.

You must take into account that tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it certainly can be a symptom of an underlying condition which is why you should get checked by your doctor if the ringing is constantly plaguing you.

The next question is, what causes tinnitus? Science hasn’t been able to confirm exactly what may be producing this condition but there are plenty theories. Damage to the nerve endings is one possible cause, advanced age is another, loud noise exposure, fluid, infection or disease of the ear bones or ear drum are also thought to cause tinnitus.

Tinnitus doesn’t discriminate and can pop up in all age groups, generally after exposure to loud noises, and it’s actually quite a common annoyance. It isn’t known to be a serious problem and mild tinnitus can occur in around 10 percent of the population.

A persistent ringing in the ears is no fun and it can get really frustrating at times, mostly at bedtime or during moments where concentration is required. Even though there is no specific cure for tinnitus, there are plenty of treatments and therapy to help you overcome this problem, and getting thoroughly evaluated by your doctor is a step closer to accomplishing this.

In the meantime, there are certain things you can avoid doing to prevent tinnitus or stop it getting worse. Try not to place objects in your ears, like cotton swabs and things that can push wax further into the ear and produce a blockage or ultimately infection. You can also wear protection over your ears especially if you work in particularly noisy areas and can be exposed to high noise levels. It’s earmuff time!
