Creams and Lotions. In a mild cases of rosacea special creams, lotions and balms may be used to fight spots and pimples. Some of them can be sold without any doctors prescription, although their effectiveness has not been proved. Some of the gels and balms can also be prescribed by your doctor and these mostly contain topical steroids and should be applied twice a day. They do not tend to cause any side effects, but there might appear some in case of a long-period usage.

There is also azelaic acid, that may help to fight rosacea, although there are quite a few side effects such as burning and stinging of the skin may appear or itchiness.

Antibiotics. Antibiotics are mainly prescribed in those cases, when just creams are not enough. With rosacea, oral antibiotics are used to reduce inflammation rather than to kill bacteria. This way of treating rosacea will only give noticeable results in a few weeks time. And you need to remember to follow the instructions, given by your doctor, otherwise the result may be less effective as desired.

There are two most commonly used antibiotics to help with rosacea: Tetracycline and Erythromycin.

Laser treatment. This is one of the latest treatments available to fight rosacea, although it is also one of the most expensive. It is considered to be very effective, although several laser sessions are required to achieve better results. And if you do try to avoid sun exposure, most of the visible blood vessels may not return for years. This can be achieved by applying a very strong sunscreen cream/lotion on a daily basis.

But you need to remember, that even if laser treatment seems to be effective, there are still some side effects that may occur, such as crusting of the skin, swelling and in some rare cases also infection and even blisters.
