There have been some truly remarkable paintings from British artists since the Middle Ages and these stretch across many different artistic styles,Famous British Paintings Articles movements and centuries which underlines the way in which his country has impressed in a variety of ways and it also continues to move further towards the more influential areas as art continues to push forward ever more. There are now some highly influential modern artists from the UK though this article reflects on two paintings from more traditionally-styled artists, namely George Stubbs and William Hogarth.
Gin Lane and Beer Street was a short series for William Hogarth aimed at sending a political message out that certain drinks were causing social harm to the British society and that from that one can assume this work helped to bring about the Gin Law which followed on shortly afterwards. These two were a rare sign of an artist creating series of paintings related together as well as some one using their technical skills for the purposes of sending out a political message on the current affairs at that time.
Whistlejacket from George Stubbs was another famous British painting which showed innovation and helped to shape the direction of future artists with several elements which were entirely ground-breaking at that time. Whistlejacket was a skilled portrait of a single horse which achieved an excellent level of accuracy. Stubbs was a highly respected artist and renowned for his ability with animal portraits, with few others ever having gone to such effort to achieve precision with in their paintings. Whistlejacket remains in the National Gallery where it holds a prominent position which reflects the great qualities which can be found in it, and these have always been known by academics ever since the career of this great painter finished.
It is well worth checking out the fine work of the two painters mentioned here as their careers were long and consistent and the two paintings of Whistlejacket and Gin Lane and Beer Street are just examples of their qualities as artists as well as the style and content that they would normally use in their work. Besides the two artists mentioned here, you will also find some highly impressive paintings from the careers of the likes of Thomas Gainsborough, John Constable, Sir Joshua Reynolds and also JMW Turner. There are also now more and more impressive works coming from this country too through modern art.
