Learning how to burn Xbox 360 games is a tad more difficult that one might think because these games are burned onto what are called dual layer DVDs. You will need to acquire special game copying software to burn Xbox 360 games and make perfect copies, and of course you'll need a supply of dual layer DVD blanks, which can be a bit more expensive than the standard disks.
The dual layer DVDs are simply discs that are designed to record data on two separate layers. This design enables game developers and movie makers to store twice as much data on a DVD. Think of it as having two DVDs combined into one disk. Xbox 360 games are stored on dual layered DVDs by the same method.
Xbox 360 games are comprised of two different data file types: an ISO file and a DVD file. The ISO file contains all of the game data. The DVD file contains all of the information required in order to burn Xbox 360 games successfully. You can acquire the files in one of two ways, download them from the Internet, which is illegal, or create them from your own game, which is perfectly legal provided the copies are for you own personal use and not for resale.
In order to burn games for Xbox 360 systems, you'll need to download a copy of a software application called imgBurn, and install it onto your computer. To start burning the game, open the DVD file, find the Layer Break number and copy it. This number tells the software the point in the data at which the computer should switch from burning one DVD layer to the other. It is critical that this number be correct. Double check that you have copied it correctly.
Start the imgBurn application. When it opens, it will display a number of options for copying discs and burning ISO files. Open the Options tab, and select the option called Layer Break. Paste in the number you copied from the DVD file. This will ensure that the computer switches to copying the other layer when required.
Once you've made all the necessary settings, select Burn from Image, and select the ISO of the game that you want to copy. The game will burn to your DVD and you'll have a playable copy in a very short time. One of the main hurdles faced by gamers is overcoming the confusion about how to play these newly burned Xbox 360 games.
