Rc helicopters got their name because of the way they are operated. They receive directions and instructions which are transmitted to them through a radio control and thus the abbreviation rc. But how many types are there and what is the difference from the other? When it comes to these helicopters that people collect and buy as a hobby,What makes rc helicopter different? Articles there are mainly four types but we will be looking at the electric, nitro and gas rc helicopters. The three form a major difference when it comes to how the helicopters are powered or what is used to power them. Below we take a look at the three and see how each one of them functions.

The first and most common rc helicopters is the electric powered helicopters. They use batteries that can either be recharged or replaced when they run low. For these types of radio controlled helicopters, they will be on air for an average time of four up to twelve minutes. The time duration will largely depend on your flying style when it comes to operating the helicopter and also the capacity of the battery. We can control the flying style but when it comes to battery capacity, what we buy from the market will only last until it runs low and have to be recharged and or replaced.

Nitro powered rc helicopters are also available in the market. These types of helicopters tend to be a little bit pricey because of the powering mode used. They come in different engine capacity as this determines how much nitrous your helicopter is able to take. The engine also determines the time duration for which you will be able to fly. On an average time, these types of rc helicopters will be airborne for about seven to fourteen minutes maximum. This is enough time for you to enjoy flying your helicopter around and also relax in some way.

The gas powered rc helicopters is the third most common type in the market. For this type, it will mostly be powered by the regular gasoline that we use on our day to day electronics. Most people tend to buy this type over the rest because they are more stable when on air. Unlike the other two types, the gas rc helicopters are in a better position to withstand relatively strong winds. But be careful when shopping for one as you can easily confuse between the gas and nitro powered helicopters.
