Considerations Before Buying a Cordless Drill

1.What type of battery does it include. When buying a cordless drill you have two battery choices to choose from. Nickel Cadmium and Lithium Ion. Nickel cadmium batteries are cheaper so often the cordless drills are cheaper to buy, but the downside is that the batteries don't last as long and they take more time to recharge. With Lithium ion batteries they are a lot more expensive so the drill usually reflects this and cost more, but the battery charge lasts longer giving longer use. Recharging of the batteries are far quicker also.
2. How much power do you need. Power is something completely different from the torque. Power is how the drill is powered, which is in volts. A 12v drill is usually enough for the average DIY'er while an 18v is good enough for any job at home and some light commercial jobs. If you are going to be buying a drill think about how much the drill will be used. If the drill is going to be used often you may as well spend a bit more and get an 18v drill then you know your drill is up to the most demanding of jobs.
3. How much torque do you need from your drill. The higher the level of torque the more force the drill has to drill. A drill requires more force if you are going to be drilling a lot of hard surfaces like concrete or steel. Do you know what you material you are going to use the drill for, even If you are only going to use the drill for the odd hard surfaces like steel you need to make sure that you've got enough torque when you need it the most.
4. When you buy the cordless drill how many batteries does the drill comes with. If you only intend on using your drill for the odd, occasional job then you should be fine with the one battery but if the drill is going to be used often then you will need to buy a cordless drill that comes with more than one battery. The time saved with having 2 batteries is significant on long, time consuming jobs. One battery being used and one charging so you don't end up wasting time as a result of a flat battery or sat waiting for the one battery to charge
5. Most cordless drills have variable speed control. You should not buy a cordless drill that only goes at one speed, even if it has a great strength. You should always buy a cordless drill with variable speed control that is simple for you to change and adjust according to the work you are doing. That way, you won't get a sudden surge in power if you press the trigger power to hard. A variable speed control allows you to drill the most hardest of jobs but also be able to drill those delicate jobs where more care is needed.
