Is your house an attractive target for burglars? We'll show you ways to protect your home from burglary. If you want to protect your home, the first step is to hire an emergency locksmith.
With the economy getting worse,
burglary is becoming a more common crime. Thieves are not getting smarter -- we're getting sloppy with protecting our houses. If you want to protect your house from burglary, the first step to take is calling an emergency locksmith. Read the following tips before you contact a locksmith.
Install high-quality locks on all doors. It doesn't take much for an experienced crook to pop open an inexpensive lock. High-quality locks come with features that make it difficult to break in. Keep in mind that emergency locksmiths offer a wide variety of new locks for residential or commercial buildings.
Double cylinder deadbolt locks should be used on any doors located near windows or ones with glass sections. If the glass is broken and a burglar tries to reach in and open the door, he won't be able to.
Install multiple locks on all doors. Each door should have at least two locks. You should also install extra locks on areas of the home that are not highly visible. When it comes to protecting your loved ones, you can never have too many locks.
Do not draw attention to your house by leaving empty boxes on the curb with your trash. By leaving boxes from new computers, flat-screen televisions, or other expensive electronics on the curb, you are showing thieves that new and valuable items are available in your house.
Think like a crook. If you stand outside your home, can you see your belongings such as laptops or collectibles? Are there areas where a burglar can hide while gaining entry such as behind trees or shrubs?
A poorly lit property makes it easier for a thief to go unseen.
If there are any poorly lit areas around the home, add more exterior lighting. Purchase motion sensor lights that are automatically triggered by movement. Motion sensor lights may be enough to startle a thief.
Lock your garage doors. Make sure the locks are strong. The rest of your house may be secure, but how easy is it to enter your garage? Many people don't think about locking their garage, but if it's attached to the home, it can provide a would-be intruder with an easy access point.
High-end alarm systems that connect to every door and window in a home really do work. These types of alarm systems are expensive, though. They cost about $3,000, plus monthly bills of $25 to $30 for the alarm system-monitoring center. If a burglar does make it to the inside of your house, your security system will alert you and the cops.
Add shades, heavy draperies, or other window treatments to windows and keep them shut. If you can see your valuables from the street, consider moving them another room in the house.
If you lose the keys to your office or house, hire an emergency locksmith. An emergency locksmith can replace your lock and provide you with new keys on the spot. When you have en emergency, don't waste time. Call an experienced emergency locksmith!
