Finding Movers and Saving Money

Finding movers can be easy. Saving money on getting your furniture and belongings packed up and moved to a new location isn’t so easy. Let’s face it: moving can be expensive in and of itself. Even if you do it with just your friends and family to help you haul the big stuff, buying a new house or renting a new apartment is bound to take a chunk of change. When you have to hire movers, that chunk grows even larger. For many people, the convenience is more than worth it. For others, they have no choice. When the job market is depressed and the housing market more so, it is much easier find movers who are offering special prices and even cutting their rates altogether. Most people can’t pick and choose when they move, but if you are one of the lucky few that can, try to wait until such a time when the economy is showing signs of slowing. Fewer people will be moving and thus the companies have to do things to make their business more attractive. Whenever there is little demand, the supply side of the economy is going to cut prices. Take advantage of this and save yourself some of your hard earned money.

Keep in mind that some movers charge different prices depending on the size of the move. Therefore, right before you make the journey to wherever your life is taking you, it might be a good idea to get rid of some stuff you may no longer need or want. Take a look around. You may be surprised at how much you’ve accumulated. Much of this stuff would never be missed if you got rid of it today. Hold a yard sale and give others the opportunity to treasure the things you no longer care about. You can make some quick cash and—more importantly—you can save money on the move.

Even if you get rid of some of your belongings, however, there is still going to be the time factor. If your movers are charging by the hour, it only makes sense to cut that time wherever possible. That means boxing your things up yourself. Not only is this a great way to save money, it will give you the chance to label everything correctly so that you can easily find it when its time to unpack in your new home.
