As winter approaches,Its Rodent Time of Year Articles you may start preparing by getting firewood together and winterizing your home.  You will try to be as comfortable as possible whenever the weather turns cold.  However, your rodent friends certainly will not find themselves comfortable on the outside.  They will try to get into your home any way they can.  If you do not want these additional guests, here are some of the things you can do to prevent them from making your home theirs.

Homeowners have been using wooden snap traps for quite a while.  They are still in use today because they are still effective.  Just make sure you bait them properly, and place new bait inside the trap every couple of days whenever it does not catch anything.

The placement of the trap is also important.  Rats and mice are usually found in darker corners and areas, so that is where you should place the traps.  Putting a few along the baseboards is especially a good idea.

Another way you can keep rodents at bay is to make use of a glue board.  This is a very simple method as you can just take a piece of cardboard and put glue all over the surface.  Whenever rats come across the board, they will become stuck and eventually die.  It is important for you to put some bait on the board to entice them to come on it.

Another strategy which may work well as a way to deal with rodents over the winter is to purchase an electronic sound emitter.  It produces high-frequency noises only rats and mice can hear which will drive them away.  Fortunately for dog owners your family pet will not be driven insane by the noise.

Over the winter, it is very important for you to keep potential food sources under control.  Food will be scarce for the rodents so they will look high and low for it.  They have a good sense of smell so they will probably be attracted to your pantry.

It is best for you to store all of your food in airtight containers so rodents cannot smell it.  Make sure you keep garbage where it belongs and keep your kitchen area as tidy as possible.

During winter, rodents really become a problem for homeowners as they try to find a warm place to stay.  You will need to make use of some of these tips if you want to keep this from happening to you.  Be proactive about things and put down a few traps or even invest in an ultrasonic pest control device.
