The impact of curtains on Interior design

The key factor in any window dressing is to choose a style which compliments the style of the room. Traditional curtains which have deep headings are ideal for heavy weight fabrics such as chenille, woven jacquard. The deep headings provide fullness to the curtains giving them a professional appearance which exudes luxury. When teamed with a box pleat pelmet or a smooth pelmet made from the same material gives a look of elegance, these styles of window dressings are ideal for large windows, including bay windows. Voile curtain panels are an ideal solution when privacy is required and alleviate the necessity for what many now regard as ’old fashioned’ net curtaining.  Lined voiles give a touch elegance and a light breezy feel to a room.

By selecting a combination of different types of fabrics for curtains which compliment existing furnishings and décor gives the appearance of a well thought out interior, fabrics such as faux suede or faux silk provide different textures which harmonises windows dressings when used as borders, edges, hold backs and pelmets.

Curtains in pastels and neutral tones will compliment all styles of décor, these are particularly useful for guest rooms to create a cool and calming atmosphere. Neutral shades in creams and beiges contrast beautifully when accent colors are used on the furniture and furnishings.

Striped curtains with different widths of stripes add an interesting effects, striped curtains also look great in small rooms when they touch the floor and are coordinated with pretty floral prints as the illusion of a larger room can be achieved.
